Rule of thirds:
- keeping the subject out of the direct center of the shot
- divide the frame into 9 squares, and line the subject up in the corners of the squares
180 degree rule:
- having your camera on one side of the horizon line, and only shoot the scene from that side
- also the imaginary line between 2 subjects
Shooting interviews:
- Do your homework
- if time do a preinterview
- Prepare your questions
- always come with extra questions
- Ask open ended questions
- it is okay to lead the conversation w/ the questions
- ask "then what happened next"
- Have your subject speak to you (the interviewer), not the camera
- Don't interrupt the subject
- Diffuse your light sources
- Subject looking off camera:
- leave more space in-front to the subjects nose
- head room: do not have any space above the head
- shoot so the hands are not popping in and out of the frame
- do not let the subject brake the frame
- keep the subjects eyes 2/3 of the way in the frame
- Have a simple or fitting background
Shooting B-Roll:
- Plan the movements and interactions
- Make shot list
- Set camera to highest frame rate
- Have your playlist set
-rises and drops
- Release all energy and have something that leads to your video
- Slow down clips and use less clips
