Insight from a Professional Photographer

Tips on how to take good photos from professional photographer, Pat Wright:

  1. Photograph people in their natural habitat. Just show people in their environment, do not always have them pose.
  2. Recognize composition and how you fill the frame. Do not have something so close you cannot tell wha the subject is, or too far that the empty space over powers your subject.
  3. Shoot tight and keep empty space to a minimum.
  4. Shoot sharp: hold the camera still (use a tripod) to eliminate fuzziness.
  5. Use different angles: bend your knees, climb up to get higher, be lower than the subject, or be higher than the subject. Turn the camera both ways, to get a different angle.
  6. Switch camera lenses.
  7. Be aware of the light and how it affects your composition.
  8. The rule of "thirds": divide the frame into nine boxes and place your subject on the intersections of the boxes.
  9. Take more than one shot.
  10. Carry more than media card.
  11. Carry a lot of batteries.
  12. Set your camera date and time.
  13. Keep your image resolution on high.
  14. Experiment with light settings.
  15. Carry lens tissue.
  16. Carry a note pad, and make notes.
Keep an eye out for pictures that I have taken, that follow these rules!
